John Pope – Chair - has been involved with SCT since May, 1967, first as visitor and “nightman” and, secondly, as a participant in the overall management becoming a Trustee in 1982 and, after retirement from a career in Shipping and Exporting, became Chairman in 2001. He is married to Jill with 3 adult sons. He is a past Chairman of Churches Together in Carshalton and served as a Deacon for over 18 years in his local Baptist Church in Carshalton Beeches.
John Brown - a chartered surveyor, having been at Weatherall Green & Smith in Chancery Lane for 34 years. In 1996 John set up his own property consultancy, BCM Chartered Surveyors, and in 1997 founded Ash Mill Developments, a niche residential property development company specialising in small quality schemes in Southern England. In Chesham his main area of ministry has been amongst young people, leading the CYFA group for over 15 years. Still fully involved in St. Mary’s and the Great Chesham Team Ministry, he is also President of Christians in Property, a Peache Trust Assessor and a long-time Trustee of the Great St. Helen’s Trust.
David Ely - retired from full time employment in January 1998 after a 30 year career in Investment Banking as Managing Director with responsibility for Operations at both Bankers Trust (27 years) and NatWest Markets (3 years). He is now involved with charity work for the British Red Cross and the United Churches of Chislehurst. He is secretary of the Magistrates Association for South East London.; a member of the Executive Committee and secretary to the South East London Family Mediation Bureau and a school mentor and Vice Chair of Governors at Churchfield School in Plumstead. He was appointed a Magistrate for the London South Eastern Region at the beginning of 2000 and now sits in Adult, Youth and Family Courts.
Philip Young - qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG), and then spent 6 years as a management consultant with Deloitte Haskins & Sells. He has also worked with NatWest Markets as Global Head of Equity Derivatives, then Chief Administrative Officer with a Japanese securities company and finally Chief Executive of an Arab owned London bank. He is retired and lives with his family in West London.
Amelia Walker - currently the Head of Strategic Policy and Planning in the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) with a Master of Letters in Philosophy and Postgraduate Diploma in Local Government Management. She has extensive experience producing research publications, press reports and speaking at government conferences as the Head of Centre for Service Transformation at the Local Government Information Unit from 2007 to 2010. Amelia has advanced knowledge of local government and local service delivery with specific expertise in housing, education and schools, health and social care, crime and justice, commissioning and governance.
Magda Palczynska - currently Executive Director, Secretary to the Risk and Audit Committees, Board of Directors at UBS AG. From 2007 to 2009 she was Chief Operating Officer at FABERGE LIMITED. She has a Master of Arts in East European Economics and extensive management, strategic and finance experience. Practical and fundraising volunteer experience in several charitable organisations, from 2005 to 2010 she was a member of women’s charity organisation Junior League of London.
Andrew Enga - a qualified solicitor working within the international capital markets group of Allen & Overy LLP in London. He has experience of advising both international banks and corporations on a broad range of financing transactions. He is a member of The Law Society of England & Wales. He has previously worked as a volunteer for a variety of organisations including the Islington Churches Cold Weather Shelter (organised by CARIS Islington), the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Free Representation Unit.
