Residential recovery

Acorn House is our 16-bed hostel in Hackney, East London, for homeless men recovering from addictions such as alcohol, drugs or gambling. An abstinence-based environment, it provides a friendly, safe and reliable place where support, recovery and healing can take place.

"I have been given a new life. Thanks to the key worker who didn’t give up on me and Acorn House for giving me so much support when I needed it."
Stephen, former Acorn House resident.

If you need help to recover from your addictions, please contact Nancy Akwani on 020 7613 3055 or at

At Acorn House, we work hard to support each person on their individual journey of recovery. By providing opportunities to make a fresh start, we enable them to improve their quality of life, build social skills and move on to live independently within the community.

"Acorn House is a fantastic local resource."

"Acorn House is extraordinary and unique."

Baroness Meacher, former social worker and Chair of the All Party Parliamentry Group for Drug Policy Reform.

In our experience, those who fully participate in all that Acorn House has to offer, go on to achieve their goals and make the big step towards reintegration back into society. Therefore the only requirement we have, is that they are fully committed to leading a clean and sober lifestyle.

Many of our residents move into one of our supported houses, the next step towards more independent living. Some have even gone onto become trainees and staff at Paper & Cup, our not-for-profit cafe in Shoreditch.

"We don’t have all the answers but what we do works. It’s worked for many people."
Nancy Akwani, Acorn House Manager.

We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
