State Street Bank

State Street is very proud to have supported SCT through our community support programs since 2008.

In 2011 we awarded a grant of $25,000 (around £15,700) to fund the initial set-up of Paper & Cup in Shoreditch.

The aims of this new social enterprise tied in exactly with State Street’s grant-making focus, by giving people in recovery or long-term unemployment the opportunity to build self-confidence and self-esteem, learn new skills and eventually get back into the workplace.

We are delighted that the initiative has gone from strength to strength and when it came to celebrating Paper & Cup’s first birthday we were keen to get involved to help make it a special occasion!

In August 2013, 8 members of our global marketing team in London started working with Stephen, Sonia and Bhavin to develop P&C’s first birthday celebration.

We used our “volunteer” hours for this – State Street gives us each two days a year to work in the community.

Together we identified the main aims – to increase the presence of Paper & Cup in its local area and to bring its unique story to the fore.

Many people are looking for an alternative to the big coffee chains, and P&C offers the perfect antidote, both as it is independent, but also because of its role in rehabilitation.

We created an email, environmental, point of sale and social media campaign for the anniversary.

We also worked with some ideas that P&C had been already been thinking of using – such as bringing many of the staff’s stories to light, and encouraging customers to tell us why they support P&C.

The anniversary party took place on 19 September and you can see the results here

As a team we enjoyed working on the P&C project as it gave us a chance to flex our retail marketing skills and allowed some of our newer team members to take the lead on projects and gain valuable experience.

It was a fantastic opportunity to work together and strengthen the bonds among the team.
